What’s the big idea?

The Whistling Duck was first conceived by us, Jon Williams and Willow Vanderbosch, in early 2012.  Both avid travelers and self-proclaimed global citizens, we had been itching for an opportunity to move out of the United States (where Willow had lived for the last year and Jon for the last four).  It just so happened that Willow’s grandmother owned some property in Eleuthera, land that she purchased back in the 1970′s as an investment and had never visited.  It was a perfect opportunity for us to take a vacation and do some research; Willow’s grandmother was interested in selling the land, and we started daydreaming about buying it and moving to the island.

When we arrived in Eleuthera, our hearts leapt – between the natural beauty, the laid-back pace of life, the overwhelming kindness and spirit of the people, and the lack of hyper-commercialization we have grown so accustomed to in the US, we fell in love with the island instantly.  We located Willow’s grandmother’s land, but did not find ourselves too fond of it, and so we decided to spend our week searching the island for our “home.” It didn’t take long for us to discover Governor’s Harbour, with all that it has to offer, and we knew we were getting close!
